  1. Dear Michele, Philip and families. So sorry to hear about the passing of your wonderful Dad, Mike. He and your Mum were always very special to me having looked after me so kindly when I was 17 and visiting Kenya. My love and sympathies to you all.

  2. Dear Michele, Philip, and family. I was both very sad and shocked to learn of the passing of your father when I spoke with you recently, Philip. I always thought Mike - a gentle and very caring man - would live forever!

I first met Mike in January 1986 at Derby for our gruelling Technical Writer’s Course. We soon became very good pals and we met again in the summer to write - and pass! - City and Guilds of London Examinations. No mean feat for a couple of fellows who were not so young!

We never met again but we were in contact every year. We spoke on the phone and Mike would tell me the latest on family in UK and Australia. Sadly, your mother Jenny, with whom I spoke on occasion, died some years ago; Mike soldiered on, however, seemingly indestructible.

By a quirk of fate in 2009 I was talking about Africa to a friend also here in Canada. One thing led to another and the next thing my friend realised he had been in classes taught by Mike decades ago! I put them in touch and they had much to reminisce! What a small world indeed - and a very happy occasion for them to chat with each other!

(I have advised Chuck of Mike's passing and he also offers his sincere condolences.)

To say that I shall indeed miss Mike goes without saying, Michele and Philip. I send to both of you and your family my deepest sympathy upon your very sad loss.

    Kind Regards,
