Joan Goodier (Née Hyde)

Joan, who died on 27th September, aged 87 years, will be remembered as a teacher by many locals in Torbay.

She taught at various schools, including Windmill Hill, Brixham and Waterleat Road, Paignton schools in the 1960s, and Brixham Community College in the 1970s.

Joan's last teaching job was at Galmpton Primary in the 1980s.  She decided to take early retirement shortly after realising that she had had the pleasure of teaching three generations of the same local families!

Always an active member of the local community, Joan was a founder member of Brixham Ladies Circle, and a regular server and reader at All Saints' Church, Brixham.

In later years she spent much time helping at Brixham Museum, sang in the Brixham Ladies choir and Chaired Ladies Forum.

In 2010 she moved to Sampford Peverell to be closer to her Daughter’s family.

However, as someone who was never going to fade into the background, at the age of 85 she rapidly made many new friends and joined the Parish Council and Mothers Union.

A great lady who will be sadly missed by many well beyond her immediate family.
